The Junior League of Charleston must engage in many fundraising efforts, both to sustain our operating budget and fulfill our commitment to supporting community efforts that help children at risk. While we recognize the importance of collecting money for this purpose, we also recognize fundraising should be fun! With these purposes in mind, we search for opportunities that allow our members to spend meaningful time together.
Our largest fundraiser, which sustains our operating budget for two years at a time, is the biennial “Whale of a Sale.” The Whale of a Sale, as the name implies, is a huge undertaking that requires a great deal of dedication and a large time commitment from our members.
We also have produced two cookbooks – Mountain Measures and Mountain Measures, A Second Serving – from which we continue to derive income on sales. Past active members have given countless hours of planning, testing and development to ensure both of these books are successes. In fact, Mountain Measures, A Second Serving has been awarded the prestigious Southern Living Cookbook Hall of Fame Award.
In addition to these two major efforts, we also undertake as many smaller fundraising projects as possible. Some of our past endeavors have included a spring fashion show, an art auction, a Monte Carlo party, an American Girl party and a gala.
Please look for Junior League of Charleston sponsored events. Any time you participate, you will know that your contribution is being used to support important community projects.
Building Community Over Cocktails
On Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at 5:30pm, the Junior League of Charleston will host its annual "Building Community Over Cocktails," at the law offices of Jackson Kelly, located at the corner of Lee and Court Streets.
The evening will feature "Fabulous Faux" jewelry and accessories, presented by Jane Casini of Richmond, Virginia. A silent auction and raffle for a one week beach home vacation in Myrtle Beach will also be held.
Refreshments, including legal beverages, will be served. The cost for the event is $20. Raffle tickets are $10. Tickets are available at the door or in advance from any Junior League of Charleston member. Proceeds from this and all Junior League Fundraisers go to support grants to local non-profit organizations working with women and children and $1000 college scholarships to two high school seniors.
