Scholarships
The Junior League of Charleston is associated with the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, http://www.tgkvf.org/scholar.htm, who administers the Rebecca Dickinson Goldsmith Scholarship Fund. This fund allows for two $1000 scholarships.
Each year, the Junior League of Charleston recognizes high school seniors who have participated to an exceptional degree in volunteer activities. A student will be awarded a scholarship based on the number of his or her volunteer hours, as well as the quality of the service performed. A committee of Junior League members will make the selections. Children of Junior League members and sustainers are not eligible for these awards.
Any student who has maintained a 2.5 grade point average and is in good standing at his school is eligible. Students must use these scholarships for college, vocational or technical education. Adults who have been associated directly with the student and their volunteer service will be asked to comment on each applicant.
Volunteer Scholarships Recognize Excellent Community Service
In the Spring of 2006, the League's Volunteer Scholarship Committee reviewed applications from the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation and chose two deserving recipients to receive scholarships from our Fund.
Kathryn Sullivan graduates with a 4.21 GPA from George Washington High School. She plans to attend Marshall University and proceed to Veterinary School. James Smith also of George Washington High School will graduate with a 3.92 GPA. He will be attending Engineering School at West Virginia University.
Both received $1000 for their excellent service in the community. We presented their awards at our annual dinner on May 17.
